Emergency Medical Services transported a 35-year-old man to a hospital early Tuesday after he sustained critical injuries in a single-vehicle crash in Wahiawa.
The crash occurred at about 3:15 a.m. near Green World Coffee Farm at 71-101 N. Kamehameha Highway.
Police said a 2015 Nissan four-door sedan was traveling northbound on the highway when it crossed into the opposite lane and veered off the road.
The vehicle then traveled up an embankment and landed in a coffee farm.
EMS treated and transported the Schofield Barracks man in critical condition to an area hospital.
Police said speed and alcohol may be involved.
Police temporarily closed the highway between Kamananui and Kaukonahua roads to investigate. Officers reopened lanes at about 5:45 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
Work furlough inmate fails to return
Inmate Joel Iuli failed to return to the Laumaka Work Furlough Center after work Monday night. Iuli, 46, was to return by 7:30 p.m.
Iuli is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 196 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
Iuli is serving time for robbery, and his next parole hearing is scheduled for May.
The public is asked to call 911 or the sheriff’s office at 586-1352 if they see Iuli.
