A 32-year-old man has been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting and choking a family member in Honolulu.
Prosecutors charged Ioannis G. Broutzakis on Tuesday with first-degree sexual assault and abuse of a family or household member. Bail is set at $100,000.
The victim, 37, reported to police that Broutzakis assaulted her Monday morning. He was arrested at a Kalakaua Avenue apartment about 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Broutzakis has a criminal record of driving under the influence of an intoxicant by mental impairment, driving with a restricted license and misdemeanor assault.
Suspect arrested after break-in and attack
Police arrested a 44-year-old man after he allegedly broke into a 39-year-old woman’s apartment and choked her in Waikiki.
The attack occurred at about 5:05 a.m. Feb. 21 when the suspect entered the unit without permission while the victim was asleep. Police said they are former intimate partners.
At some point, an altercation occurred and the perpetrator choked her.
Police located the suspect Tuesday and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree burglary. Prosecutors on Wednesday night declined to pursue the case.
Falling tree in Haleiwa seriously injures man, 35
Emergency Medical Services transported a 35-year-old man to a hospital Wednesday after he sustained an injury from a falling tree in Haleiwa.
The tree fell at about 9:30 a.m. in the area of 59-075 Pupukea Road, causing an ankle injury to the patient.
Paramedics treated and transported him to a hospital in serious condition.
